The project GREEN.DAT.AI, where R&D Spain has led the WP Data management test-bench - Infrastructure and tools to support Dynamic Ecosystems - and the task Big Data Analytics Infrastructure and Federated Data Sovereignty Services for AI-ready Data Spaces, ended successfully on 31/12/2025 after 36 months of work.
At the Final Review held on 3rd of March 2026, the consortium presented the outcomes of the project consisting of the Reference Architecture and data governance framework validated enabling the development of the Data Space compliant infrastructure deployed to support more than 20 Energy efficient AI services.
Some of the main results have been:
- The RA and data governance framework, fully validated with stakeholders and applied across the UCs.
- Fully operational Data Space compliant infrastructure deployed, including data sharing mechanisms and energy benchmarking capabilities, integrated and used within the UCs.
- More than 20 Energy efficient AI services finalized and validated in real UCs, demonstrating measurable energy efficiency improvements of at least 10% in selected scenarios.
- Six cross sector UCs integrated and executed end-to-end workflows, with technical validation, performance assessment and used feedback collected.
- Commercialization strategies and initial business plan defined for all UCs, with identified pathways for post-project update and scaling.
Consequently, all objectives initially defined for the project were meet with a special emphasis on:
- Balance energy efficiency with performance: driving innovation in AI applications, enabling processing on the edge and federated learning, while reducing the environmental impact of data management processes.
- Measure the energy efficiency of AI services through a benchmarking and evaluation framework, address the need for more accurate energy consumption models and the development of energy-aware AI algorithms.
R&D Spain’s contribution has been key to the project because the team led:
- The implementation of the platform to orchestrate Big Data Analytics over infrastructures covering all the elements of computing continuum.
- The implementation of specific services for standard, secure and sovereign data sharing, including tools for ensuring interoperability and interfaces for uploading/publishing and consuming data.
- Connectors and interfaces deployment and integration with the components of the GREEN.DAT.AI platform.
